Trail

NOTE: this route is a natural extension of Trail V1, resulting in a ring trail of approximately 20 kilometres, starting and ending in Piazza Pieve di Bigonzo. The circuit around Lago Morto brings the total distance to 25 kilometres. The distance in brackets refers to the complete trail (V1 – V3); for a description of the initial and final sections, please refer to Trail V1.

Partenza - Borgo Maren

Km 0.00 (6.150) – From the hamlet “Borgo Maren” (443 metres above sea level), keeping the fountain on your left and the houses with arches on your right, walk downhill along a path through the trees, which soon becomes quite steep and uneven. Ignore two paths on the right and continue downhill until you reach the sign for trail 1047b.

Km 0.300 (6.450) – Take the trail, which initially climbs and then continues undulating along the side of the mountain.

Km 0.700 (6.850) – You will encounter three successive parts that require some caution due to landslides; a fixed rope makes the passage easier.

Tower of San Floriano

Km 0.850 (7.000) – Cross a small stream that is not always active and then head uphill for a short stretch.

Km 0.950 (7.100) – At the cableway, the view opens up onto the Restello and Negrisiola lakes below and the Tower of San Floriano. The path continues with many ups and downs.

Km 1.400 (7.550) – At a high-voltage pylon, the trail gives way to a grassy dirt road and, after a flat stretch, begins to descend towards the viaducts of the A27 motorway.

Hamlet of Nove

Km 2.200 (8.350) – Pass through a barrier and after about 150 metres, you will pass under the motorway viaduct. Immediately afterwards, turn right, climbing up the dirt road and coming to the first houses of the hamlet of Nove. After a short climb, you will come to a paved road and begin descending again, keeping to the right at first and then to the left at the next intersection.

Km 2.800 (8.950) – Take the dirt road on the right, bordered by a low stone wall, which passes behind the former school of Nove (Via dei Colesei) until it reaches the S.S. 51 Alemagna road.

Km 3.200 (9.350) – Keep right along the main road for about 100 metres, then take the concrete ramp that leads up to the right. After a few dozen metres, a small grassy road begins. Follow this road, staying on the main track until it descends onto the paved road near the headquarters of the Alpini della Val Lapisina. Once you reach the paved road, turn left and descend along Via Divisione Julia until you reach the S.S. 51 Alemagna road again.

Km 3.500 (9.650) – Cross the main road and take Via Cal di Nove. After crossing the railway line, follow it towards Lago Morto, then take Via della Ferrovia.

Lago Morto Lake

Km 4.400 (10.550) – Once you reach Borgo Piccin (284 metres above sea level – drinking fountain in the square and refreshment point by the lake, open in high season), the route can be extended further by following the signs for the Trail V4, which circles the lake in about five kilometres. The way back is via Trail 1044a, which can be seen turning your back to the fountain. The first section runs under the trees. After about two hundred metres, turn right and climb up to a dry stone wall that borders a small vineyard. Keep left here until you reach a crossroads.

Km 4.700 (10.850) – Once you reach the houses, keep to the right, staying on Trail 1044a, which now leads uphill. After passing a few shacks, keep to the left, climbing more steeply until you reach a high-voltage power line pole, where the road curves and begins to descend to the aqueduct reservoir. Here, keep left, descending onto the path that soon reaches a dirt road. Turn right onto this road and continue climbing. After a stony stretch, the road narrows and turns into a trail with countless changes in gradient, which you must follow, ignoring all the junctions and staying on the main route. The trail follows the high-voltage power line, from which it derives its local name: “Troi dei Pai”.

End of route

Km 7.500 (13.650) – You will come to a dirt road, where you should keep to the right and walk uphill until you reach a small road after about 300 metres. Keep left and you will soon reach a cableway and, after a few metres, the top of the climb (444 metres above sea level), where the view opens up towards the Serravalle narrow valley.

Km 8.200 (14.350) – You arrive at the paved road that leads to Croda Rossa, where the long descent towards Forcal begins.

Km 10.500 (16.650) – After passing under the A27 motorway, you reach Forcal (refreshments available at the bar on the left), then turn right along Via Fabio Filzi and Via Trementina until you reach a stop sign.

Km 11.650 (17.800) – At the stop sign, turn left along Via della Vallata until you reach Porta Cadore, where you turn right towards Via Caprera, crossing the Trail V1 (Km 12.100).

To return to Piazza Pieve di Bigonzo, follow the signs for Trail V1 for another two kilometres.
