Trail

Start

Km 0.00 – From the square, take Via Sant’Andrea and follow it for about 400 metres. Leave Via Parravicini on your left and continue along Via Calcada until you reach the base of the steps leading to the Sanctuary of Santa Augusta (fountain). Climb the steps, following the entire route which, with various turns and passing numerous votive chapels, leads, after a final steep flight of steps, to the Sanctuary dedicated to Santa Augusta.

Km 1.700 – Once you reach the church (a drinking fountain on the right-hand side), keep left until you reach the grassy square from which a steep path branches off to the right, leading up to the Sant’Augusta ridge (identified on the map as Costa di Serravalle). The initial section is rather rough and particularly slippery when wet.

Turris Nigra

Km 1.850 – You reach the picturesque Turris Nigra. Here, the path flattens out briefly before starting to climb again. A long series of climbs begins, alternating with short descents and sections of false level ground, always on an easy path that winds through the woods, until you reach a bend on the edge of the hill, which offers a wide view of the hills below and the plain.

Km 3.700 – You reach a widening where a small dirt road allows you to descend towards the hamlet of Scarpedal and then to Borgo Maren and the paved road. The trail continues straight ahead, first uphill on more uneven terrain, then turning sharply to the left into a gorge, at the end of which the slope decreases. Leave the main path that climbs uphill and take the one that descends sharply in the opposite direction. After about 300 metres, you will exit the woods and, keeping alongside a fence, continue downhill across a meadow, passing an antenna to reach a group of rural dwellings (close the gate). Continue downhill on a road that alternates between concrete and dirt sections until you reach the paved road near the Astronomical Observatory in Piadera.

Piera Dolza

Km 4.850 – Keep to the right and continue downhill on asphalt, passing the restaurant ‘Dal Selvaggio’ until you reach a three-way crossroads. Here, leave the asphalt road and take the dirt road that climbs into the woods; after about 300 metres, keep right and then immediately right again, continuing to climb moderately – now on a path – passing some old sandstone quarries, called ‘piera dolza’ in the local dialect.

Km 6.500 – Ignore the path that descends to the left and start walking along the Costa di Fregona, which descends towards the plain with a panoramic view.

Km 3.600 – Borgo Naronchie, continue straight ahead at the crossroads.

Madonna della Salute

Km 7.600 – After some small rocks, the trail turns sharply to the left, then at the fork, keep left, effectively reversing the direction of travel and continuing on flat ground. After about 130 metres, you will reach a crossroads. Turn right and continue downhill until you reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Salute. After descending the steps (there is a drinking fountain just below), take the cobbled path downhill towards the valley, leaving it almost immediately to take a path on the right. After about 500 metres, ignore a junction and continue straight on the main trail, continuing to descend. After about 120 metres, ignore the trail that descends to the left and continue straight on level ground, passing a high-voltage pylon. The trail then descends steeply to a small concrete road. Keep left here and continue descending.

End of route

Km 9.150 – Turn right onto Via Madonna della Tosse, whose small church is located a few dozen metres further on, on the left. Continue along the asphalt road until you reach the junction with Via Rindola Alta; here, keep left along Via Rindola Bassa for about 300 metres, then turn right onto Via Callalta, and finally onto Via G. Sanfiori to arrive at Piazza di Pieve di Bigonzo.
