V4 – Giro del lago morto

Il Giro del Lago Morto

A short but varied and challenging trail along one of the lakes in Val Lapisina, ideal for late afternoon walks on summer days when the heat grips the plain.

Due to its short length and morphology, the route is also suitable for a relaxing walk and Nordic Walking.

– how to reach the start :
From Vittorio Veneto, take the Alemagna state road towards Belluno. Once you reach the hamlet of Nove, pass the Bar al Gallo Nero and the War Memorial. Shortly afterwards, on the left, you will see signs for the “Lago Morto” picnic area. Follow the road that runs alongside the railway line until you reach the car park of the picnic area, which is the starting point for our tour.

Trail

Start

Km 0.00 – From the car park, facing the lake, turn right to take Trail 1044 (Sentiero del Lago Morto), marked with red and white trail markers. Initially, the trail is a bit narrow and bordered by a fence, but further on, after about 300 metres, it widens and runs under the trees with a few ups and downs, always close to the lake shore. After about 1.5 kilometres, you will come to a crossroads, where you continue straight ahead, ignoring the trail that climbs to the left. A little further on, you will reach a “Percorso Vita” (fitness trail) station. Leave the lake shore behind you and walk up a short ramp, at the end of which you turn left onto a small road surrounded by dry stone walls. Follow this road until you reach the paved road near a house.

Laghetti Blu (Blue Ponds)

Km 1.800 – Turn left down a slight slope towards Laghetti Blu (Blue Ponds) and the picnic area of the same name. After about 80 metres, you will see an open gate on the right leading to a grassy path. Follow this path, keeping high above the ponds and climbing gently. Further on, ignore the path that descends to the left and continue climbing until you reach the asphalt road of Borgo Faè.

End of route - Borgo Piccin

Km 2.400 – Turn left downhill onto the paved road that passes next to the ENEL hydroelectric power station. When the road levels out, ignore the junction on the right (small playground on the left) and, just before the bridge, take the dirt road that leads between the houses in Fadalto Basso.

Km 3.000 – Once you leave the hamlet, the lovely dirt road gets closer to the lake shore again and, with lots of ups and downs, takes you back to the charming Borgo Piccin. At km 4.000, a short ramp climbs steeply until it meets the junction with Trail 1045, which climbs towards the hamlet of Caloniche. Keep left at the junction, and a quick descent takes you back to flat ground. Pass a characteristic red house and then, near Borgo Simoi, after a very short climb and a final flat stretch, you return to the starting point. Km 5.200.
